About This Project
Washington's Armor: Bulletproof is a historical short film set during the French & Indian War. Working as part of the art department, I helped create immersive environments that supported both historical authenticity and the practical needs of film production.
My contributions ranged from scenic fabrication and set dressing to on-set continuity and production support. Working on location at Fort Parker, I collaborated with the production team to help create believable eighteenth-century environments while ensuring consistency throughout filming.
Scenic Fabrication
Built a log cabin interior by transforming standard plywood into hand-textured log walls using drywall compound, natural fibers, and scenic painting techniques.
My Contributions
Faux Fireplace Construction
Helped fabricate and finish a historically inspired fireplace that served as a central feature of the cabin interior.
Prop Fabrication
Painted and finished replica muskets and other scenic elements to achieve realistic weathering appropriate for the period.
Set Dressing
Styled both the cabin interior and military medical tent with furnishings, props, and period details that supported the film's historical setting.
Historical Styling
Collaborated with the art department to ensure furnishings, textures, and decorative details reflected the French & Indian War era.
Location Setup
Assisted with transporting, installing, and removing scenic elements during filming at historic Fort Parker.
Continuity
Maintained visual continuity between takes by monitoring the placement of props, costumes, and environmental details.
Film Production Responsibilities
Actor Support
Applied dirt and aging effects to costumes and actors to maintain believable battlefield continuity throughout filming.
On-Location Production
Worked alongside the production crew during filming at Fort Parker and other locations, assisting with setup, teardown, and daily production needs.
Production Coordination
Helped ensure actors arrived on set at the appropriate time for scheduled scenes while supporting the production team's workflow.
Transforming Plywood into Logs
To create the appearance of hand-hewn log walls, standard plywood sheets were textured using a grinder and rasp before being hand painted to resemble aged timber. Chinking was simulated using drywall compound and natural fibers.
Behind the Build
Creating a Period Fireplace
The fireplace was designed to appear as a permanent eighteenth-century structure while remaining lightweight and practical for production.
Preparing Props
Replica muskets were painted and weathered to better match the harsh conditions of the French & Indian War.
